Garmin changed how apps get your data in 2026, and a lot of older advice no longer holds. This guide covers what changed, what still works for getting your own Garmin data into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app, and where freddy stands. It is current as of 26 October 2026.

freddy is ours. We say where it fits and where it does not.

What changed in 2026

Garmin added a free personal key on 21 October.

What still works

1. A service that connects through Garmin's official program

You approve access on Garmin's own screen, and the service never sees your password. freddy works this way. So do a few other hosted connectors, which we list in our Garmin MCP servers roundup. This is the least work, and it works on your phone.

2. Garmin's Personal API key

Launched on 21 October. In Garmin Connect on the web, open Settings, choose Personal API Key and create a key. Keys expire, so you will need to renew it.

  • It covers your own account only.
  • It is pull only: your code asks Garmin for data, and nothing arrives by itself after a workout.
  • Garmin offers no MCP server for it, so you need one on your own computer. Community servers are starting to appear.

3. Apple Health and Health Connect

The Garmin Connect app can share part of your data with Apple Health on iPhone, and with Health Connect on Android 14 or newer. Both are one way: Garmin writes to them and does not read back. On Android you have to switch it on yourself.

Garmin shares the main activity, sleep and body metrics with Health Connect. Garmin-only metrics such as Body Battery may not come through.

Once the data is in Apple Health, some AI apps can read it directly. ChatGPT Health connects to Apple Health for US users on iPhone. Claude's Apple Health integration is a US beta for Pro and Max. freddy also reads Apple Health and Health Connect, next to Garmin itself.

4. Your Garmin data export

Garmin lets you request a full copy of your account data. It is a snapshot, so nothing updates afterwards, but it holds everything you have ever recorded. You can import it into freddy once to fill in older history. Our Garmin guide has the steps.

5. Unofficial libraries

python-garminconnect and the MCP servers built on it sign in as you, with your Garmin email and password. They reach almost everything. The trade: your credentials sit in a script, and the sign-in can stop working at any time.

If a Garmin tool asks for your Garmin email and password on its own page instead of sending you to a Garmin sign-in page, it uses the unofficial way. On your own computer, that can be a fair trade. Think twice before you type those credentials into a website somebody else runs.

Where freddy stands

freddy connects to Garmin through the Garmin Connect Developer Program. You approve access on Garmin's own screen, and freddy never sees your Garmin password.

Your data is yours: when you delete your account, we delete your data.

freddy reads Garmin, Apple Health, Health Connect and 100+ sources in one account. The free plan covers 1 source and shows 7 days of history. Pro is $49 a year and Believer is $249 once, for life. Paid plans have no source limit. See pricing.

To add freddy, use the Claude connector directory or the official ChatGPT plugin. In Cursor or any other MCP client, you paste one personal URL.

How to choose

  • You want the least work, or more than Garmin in one place: freddy.
  • You like to build your own and only need your own data: the Personal API key.
  • You want something quick on your phone and partial data is fine: Apple Health or Health Connect.
  • You want an archive: the Garmin data export.
  • You are happy to trade a password for depth, on your own computer: an unofficial library.
